From the Bauhaus Into the World” presents numerous photographs that the artist took between 1929 and 1931, immediately after his time at the Bauhaus in Dessau. Xanti Schawinsky (1904 born in Basel, died 1979 in Locarno), at that time head of graphic design at the public building department of the city of Magdeburg, is considered today one of the most important artistic figures of the Bauhaus. His photographs were based on Dadaistic collages, the photograms by Man Ray and Kurt Schwitters as well as the photographic experiments by his teacher László Moholy-Nagy. Besides his photographic series which Schawinsky made for theatre magazines and the building department, the photographs and photographic collages that were created in the context of his work as exhibition designer as well as photographic collages from his time as professor at Black Mountain College are on display for the first time.

Xanti Schawinsky (geb. 1904 in Basel – gest.
